BELGIAN ANIMATION STUDIO WALKING THE DOG IN CANNES WITH TWO PRESTIGIOUS PRODUCTIONS
Communiqué de presse, Cannes ce jour!
Belgian animation studio and producer WALKING THE DOG, best known for their contribution to the better “auteur” films such as The Triplets of Belleville, Brendan and the Secret of Kell’s and A Monster in Paris, will be presenting their work on Ari Folman’s The Congress selected as opening film for the Directors’ Fortnight tomorrow night, as well as an exclusive promo reel, which will be shown on Friday, of their upcoming coproduction with EUROPACORP, Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart, scheduled for release in February 2014.
Walking the Dog is an animation studio based in the centre of Brussels created by the two producers Anton Roebben and Eric Goossens in 1996. The first project they worked on was the Oscar nominated animation film The Triplets of Belleville from the French director Sylvain Chomet. After this initial success, Walking the Dog continued their collaboration ship with the Belgian coproducer on The Triplets of Belleville, Vivi Film on a new classical animation film called Brendan and the Secret of Kell’s from the Irish director Tomm Moore. Together with Cometafilm (It), Iris Production (Lux) and 2d3d Animations (Fr), Walking The Dog then coproduced Enzo d’Alo’s “Pinocchio” based on the script of Enzo d’Alo and Umberto Marino and with Lorezo Mattotti as art director.
In coproduction with EuropaCorp Walking The Dog worked in 2010/2011 on “A Monster in Paris” a CGI movie directed by the French director Bibo Bergeron. Walking The Dog also co-produced in 2011/2012 “Le Jour Des Corneilles” from the director JC Dessaint and in co-production with Finalement (FR), Melusine Prod (Lux) and MaxFilms (CA). This film was released in October 2012.
More recently, Walking The Dog contributed as animation studio on the film The Congress - with ROBIN WRIGHT- selected as opening film for the Directors’ Fortnight May 16th.
In the meantime, Walking The Dog has already finished a substantial part of the coproduction with EuropaCorp of the CGI feature film Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart (Jack et la Mécanique du Coeur) which will be released in February 2014. A promo has been showned on Friday 17th at 16:00.
Director Ari Folman follows his Oscar-nominated Waltz With Bashir with a live-action/animation blend adapted from Stanislaw Lem’s sci-fi novel The Futurological Congress. Harvey Keitel, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Danny Huston, and Paul Giamatti also star. Un film interpèlant, inclassable.
